Register at our address & apply for your BSN

Are you staying for more than 90 nights? If so, you can register with us in the Municipal Personal Records Database (BRP) of the municipality of Amsterdam — the basis for obtaining a BSN, a bank account and health insurance.

90+ nights — optional 4+ months — legally required

What are a BSN and the BRP?

With a Citizen Service Number (BSN), you may be eligible in the Netherlands for things such as a permanent residential address, a bank account and health insurance.

To be eligible for a Dutch BSN, you must first register as a resident at a specific address in the Municipal Personal Records Database (BRP).

Here’s how it works at Makerstoren

As a guest of the Makerstoren , if your stay exceeds 90 nights, we offer you the option to register at our address in the Amsterdam municipal population register (BRP). This is possible from the first day of your arrival.

1

Request the consent form

On request, we will provide the form authorising us to register you at our address — from your very first day with us.

2

Register with the City of Amsterdam

By completing the form, you’ll register your address with us in the BRP. Once this has been processed, you’ll officially be a resident of Amsterdam.

3

Submit your supporting documents

An extract from your registration, and upon departure a proof of deregistration — this way we can be sure whether and for what period tourist tax is due.

Which bookings does this apply to?

Our own website Registration at Makerstoren
Booking.com Registration at Makerstoren
Airbnb Registration at Makerstoren

As the payment of tourist tax via Airbnb is not processed through us, registration at our address is possible, but a tourist tax refund is not.

Registration at Makerstoren I’m already registered as a resident of Amsterdam — at a different address. What should I do?

We regularly welcome residents of Amsterdam who need a temporary alternative flat, for example due to building works, water damage or a divorce. They are already registered in the BRP, but at a different address in Amsterdam.

In such cases, we can also refund any excess tourist tax paid at the end of your stay — provided you submit proof of registration in the BRP, both on arrival and on departure.

As long as you are not registered in the BRP, your stay is considered a tourist stay and we will charge tourist tax. This is also only possible via our own website and Booking.com — not via Airbnb.

What are the benefits of registering?

Once you’re registered at our address in the BRP, you’ll no longer be liable for tourist tax. Subject to certain conditions, any tourist tax overpaid in advance may be refunded.

Refund conditions

On commencement: an extract from your registration in the BRP.*

On departure: proof of deregistration from our address in the BRP.*

* If two people are renting a room together, both must be registered to be eligible for a tourist tax refund

Please note: local authority charges

As an official resident of Amsterdam, you are personally responsible for paying charges such as refuse collection tax and water board tax. We do not pay these on your behalf or claim a refund for them.
